Israeli company Lumus has demonstrated their screen-in-glasses technology that creates 2D and 3D ion transparent lenses. People around you will not even notice that you are watching TV shows during the Monday meetings because the images are only visible from the inside. The technology will be officially unveiled at CES 2012 in Las Vegas.

Lumus has given a pre-demonstration of their display-in-glasses technology to TechCrunch, ahead of the CES 2012 unveiling.

The science fiction-style glasses are not exactly pretty but Lumus has made a range of improvements compared to the first prototypes. The glasses are based on a projector technology. Along the earpieces two small light projectors have been integrated. These units project 1280x720 pixels images onto the lenses and because two different images can be reproduced, Lumus can create 2D and 3D images. Lumus says that the effect corresponds to watching an 87-inch screen from a distance of 3 meters. Lumus has also created an adaptor for iPhones.

TechCrunch says that “clarity is amazing” in 2D and 3D video. The lenses have no built-in technology and serves merely as a canvas.
Lumus will exhibit the technology at the CES 2012 show in Las Vegas but only as a prototype. Lumus is not planning to release own-brand products but instead license the technology to other companies. They are already in talks with major electronics players that hope to use the technology for virtual reality gaming solutions. Lumus is also working on a solution for military use and a 1080p version.
