Samsung has just unveiled their new 9 series monitor with PLS panel, 2560x1440 pixel resolution, and a MHL port. It will be available from March 2012 with a $1199 price tag.

Samsung is following up on last year’s 9 series with a new 2012 variant with a new design. Samsung describes it as ”floating in mid-air”. The monitor is supported by a height-adjustable aluminum stand with input connectors in the base.

The monitor uses Samsung’s own PLS (Plane Line Switching) panel technology and has a Natural Color Expert system that covers hardware color calibration tools and a pre-calibrated profile. Samsung hopes to please photographers and amateur graphic artists with the offerings.

Other specs include a 2560x1440 pixel resolution, 1000:1 contrast ratio, 5 ms (g2g) response time, 300 cd/m2 brightness and 178/178 viewing angles. Samsung also offers HDMI, DVI, DisplayPort, speakers, MHL (Mobile High Definition Link) and a built-in USB hub.
Samsung has only announced a 27-inch variant so far called S27B970. The 27-inch version will debut in March 2012. Pricing will begin at $1199. The monitor will be exhibited at CES 2012.
