Samsung has started mass production of large-size transparent LCD panels, and says that they have already received requests from companies planning to use the transparent panels in refrigerators and other applications.
Transparent LCDs are coming
Samsung has exhibited transparent LCD panels several times in the past and mass production has now been initialized. The first panel that went into production was the 22-incher and the 46-inch version is now ready.

The transparent 46-inch LCD panel has a 1366x768 pixel resolution and 4500:1 contrast ratio. If the panel proves successful, Samsung can expand production to other screen sizes.

Samsung says that they have already received requests from companies wishing to use the transparent LCD panels in commercial refrigerators, but Samsung also believes in other applications such as e-boards, information windows and medical equipment.
Samsung also has a 22-inch version in production that has been well received by customers and “potential customers in mobile devices, jewelry and luxury goods sectors”, Samsung says.
Research firm Display Bank expects the transparent display to grow from US$0.9 billion in 2015 to US$87 billion in 2025.
