BBC has outlined their plan to broadcast some events from the 2012 summer Olympics in London in 3D. BBC specifically mentions the ceremonies and 100m final, but labels it as “a 3D experiment”.

BBC, the public-service TV broadcaster in the UK, has announced plans to show some events from the 2012 summer Olympics in London in 3D.

BBC wants to record and broadcast the opening ceremony, the closing ceremony, the 100m final and highlights from other events in the third dimension. More events may be added later.
- "We've chosen these events partly because they mark the pinnacles of the Games but also to minimise the loss of HD that is a consequence of our 3D service," explained Roger Mosey, the BBC's director of London 2012.
The 3D events will be shown on the BBC HD channel in the UK. BBC One and BBC One HD will show SD and HD, respectively. Still no words on plans to broadcast the Olympics in 3D outside of the UK, however.
BBC also expects to broadcast certain parts of the 2012 Olympics in 8Kx4K resolution.
