The New York Post describes how Apple is working on a subscription TV service that allow users to stream video content directly to the TV screen over the internet.
Apple is reportedly demanding to control both price and content, and they are pressuring the TV companies to play along, despite resistance. According to the sources, prominent Eddy Cue, who has also been involved in previous content deals, is leading negotiations.
According to the same sources, Apple is also considering the possibility to offer TV channels as “apps”. The exact details have not been decided but Apple has been in talks with TV broadcasters since 2009, it is said.
According to the New York Post, the TV service will launch before Christmas. The TV service is also viewed as an essential element that needs to be ready before an Apple HDTV will launch. Apple’s HDTV is rumored for late 2012 or 2013.
