Sharp starts IGZO LCD panel production

Sharp’s IGZO based LCD panels have been mentioned a few times in the past and Sharp has now started production of LCD panels using the IGZO method. One of the first panels is a 10-inch panel with 2560x1600 pixels.Sharp begins IGZO production
At Sharp’s Kameyama no. 2 display factory, IGZO production has begun. IGZO is short for indium gallium zinc oxide and is used for faster and smaller thin-film transistors that can power a display panel.

With IGZO Sharp can dramatically increase resolution and reduce power consumption on LCD panels, and at the same time lower costs.

Sharp can also make larger high-resolution TV panels using IGZO. Last year, rumors surfaced that Apple was planning to use Sharp’s IGZO panels in their iPhones, iPads as well as the coming Apple HDTV.
