Western Digital hopes to take on Roku and enter the world of casual TV gaming with a new streaming video box that doubles as a gaming-centric box. The WD TV Play box has been revealed by the FCC, even before Western Digital has officially announced the product.

Western Digital wants to challenge Roku’s popular TV boxes with a media box for streaming internet content and casual TV gaming.

Not everything is revealed about the final product yet but it is said to include Texas Hold-em and games from services such as Funspot and PlayJam. Western Digital also seems to have included dedicated shortcut buttons for Hulu Plus, Netflix and Vudu on the remote control, making the US-based streaming services easily available.
No words on when we can expect the WD TV Play in stores but we think it is fair to say that WD TV Play is very close to a market introduction.
