LG starts selling 84” 4K TV

Following the launch of Samsung’s 75-inch LED model, LG has announced that their impressive 84-inch 4K Cinema 3D TV has entered production in “limited quantities”. The TV is LG’s first commercial 4K TV and just as promised it will arrive to those who can afford it.

The TV uses a 4K (3840x2160 pixels) resolution, enabling LG to present 2D content in 4K resolution and 3D content in impressive 3D picture quality, only requiring cheap polarized 3D glasses. 4K resolution is four times higher than Full HD and incorporates approximately 8.3 million individual pixels. The TV will also come complete with LG’s Smart TV platform with TV apps and a 2.2 speaker system. It is based on a LCD panel with LED backlighting.

LG’s 84-inch 84LM9600 will be available in South Korea by the end of August and will cost around $22000. Only 84 TVs will be produced initially. LG gives away free camcorders to people who pre-order, and also plans to provide 4K content. LG promises to bring ultra-definition products to North America, Europe and other global market later in 2012.
