Amazon to develop future TV services
Amazon to develop future TV services in London

Amazon has announced the opening of a new massive Research Centre in London's streets. From the new office, Amazon will develop the next generation of digital TV and video services that will benefit "consumers worldwide." Millions of UK pounds will be invested in the project.

Amazon to take on TV industry

Amazon has increasingly established themselves as a player in the digital media industry. Amazon has video streaming services in USA and Europe, launched their first tablet last year, and has rolled out video apps for most platforms and devices. Amazon also owns LoveFilm; a competitor to Netflix in the UK.

The new "Digital Media Development Centre" is located in London and will cover 47,000 sq. ft. (almost 4400 square meters) and be expanded to 8 floors. Several million UK pounds will be invested and several hundred employees will be employed.

From here, Amazon will develop the next generation of TV and video services, for a range of different devices. What to expect is still an open question but Amazon says that LoveFilm and PushButton employees will be transferred to the new location. LoveFilm is a UK-based video service similar to Netflix. PushButton develops video apps for tablets, TVs, smartphones etc.

Amazon has nothing else to share at this point but promises exciting opportunities in the foreseeable future.
