Google hopes to push the boundaries with the new Google Fiber project in Kansas City. Google will offer Full HD (1080p) TV channels via a 1-gigabit internet connection – 100 times faster than a typical 10 megabit.
Google Fiber rolls out
In early 2012 it was reported that Google was planning to offer high-quality TV channels via 1-gigabit internet. Google has now officially launched the project under the name Google Fiber. The first ones to benefit are residents of Kansas City.

Google is now officially a TV provider after the introduction of Google Fiber
Google Fiber is a 1-gigabit/s internet connection that allows Google to stream TV channels in excellent Full HD (1080) resolution. Customers will also get a TV box that can record up to 8 TV streams simultaneously on a 2 TB hard drive, as well as a Nexus 7 tablet that will function as a remote control.
If you live in Kansas City you can get the complete package for 120 USD per month. Google also offers “Free Internet” to all residents for a one-time fee of 300 dollars.
With the new initiative, Google has entered the TV business at full speed, and it will be exciting to follow Google’s efforts from here. Google is also working on the Google TV platform. Learn more about Google Fiber here.
