Google Fiber: Full HD TV via 1 Gb internet

Google hopes to push the boundaries with the new Google Fiber project in Kansas City. Google will offer Full HD (1080p) TV channels via a 1-gigabit internet connection – 100 times faster than a typical 10 megabit.

In early 2012 it was reported that Google was planning to offer high-quality TV channels via 1-gigabit internet. Google has now officially launched the project under the name Google Fiber. The first ones to benefit are residents of Kansas City.

Google Fiber is a 1-gigabit/s internet connection that allows Google to stream TV channels in excellent Full HD (1080) resolution. Customers will also get a TV box that can record up to 8 TV streams simultaneously on a 2 TB hard drive, as well as a Nexus 7 tablet that will function as a remote control.

If you live in Kansas City you can get the complete package for 120 USD per month. Google also offers “Free Internet” to all residents for a one-time fee of 300 dollars.
