Netflix announced their plans to enter the Nordic market yesterday. Shortly after HBO issued a press release to tell us that there are also entering the Nordic market. HBO currently operates the HBO GO streaming service but the press release is vague on details.
HBO coming to the Nordic
HBO produces some of the most popular TV series such as Game Of Thrones, Band of Brothers, Sex and the City and Entourage. Their catalog of TV shows and movies is now coming to Denmark, Sweden, Norway and Finland.

HBO’s announcement rolled in only hours after Netflix’s announcements yesterday. Today, HBO has traditional TV channels and the internet video streaming service HBO GO. HBO’s press release is believed to be a response to Netflix’s announcement so we should probably expect HBO to follow the streaming route rather than the TV channel route.
HBO will go online in the Nordic later in 2012. Later in August, HBO will announce more details at a press conference in Sweden. HBO is owned by Time Warner and has teamed up with Swedish company Parsifal International for the Nordic launch. HBO Nordic has been created as a joint venture company.
