We had heard some rumors but today Sony has officially revealed their new flagship TV. The name is HX950 (possible HX959 in the US) and it offers improved Intelligent Peak LED, active 3D, Sony Entertainment Network - and more.
Update The European launch has been confirmed. Still no words on a US launch date.

Sony Japan has revealed details about the new 9 series TV from Sony. The European and US variants have not been revealed yet but we already know most details about Sony’s new flagship TV.

HX920 is the successor to last year’s HX920 / HX929 and offers full LED backlight, dubbed “Intelligent Peak LED”. The LEDs are placed behind the LCD panel instead of at the edge, which enables Sony to control light output in zones and improve black depth considerably. No word on the number of zones but Sony promises improvements over last years’ 9 series.

The TV is based on Sony’s Monolithic design that has been around for a few generations now. The front glass is “cut from one piece”. The simple look is supported by a new Loop stand. Sony also says that an improved anti-reflective filter has been applied to the TV.

Sony boasts a Motionflow XR800 system (XR960 in the US) that should improve motion reproduction. The TV also supports active 3D and the Sony Entertainment Network with the Music and Video Unlimited services is available in select countries. DLNA, WiFi and 2x10W speakers is mentioned as well. Picture processing is handled by the X-Reality PRO system. Besides the bundled remote control users can also control the TV with iOS or Android smartphones or tablets.

Sony HX950 will be available in November in 55 and 65 inch sizes. The European and US launch dates have not been confirmed yet but we expect to hear more at IFA 2012 in Berlin soon.
