Apple launched its 15" Macbook Pro with Retina display in June and here comes the 13-inch version. FlatpanelsHD takes a closer look at the display that can help push the PC display industry forward.
13" Macbook Pro with Retina display
The PC monitor industry has stagnated over the last few years and we have many times called for innovation and higher resolution. The desktop display market has not picked up innovation speed yet but the laptop segment has recently seen higher-resolution displays. First with the 15” Macbook Pro and now with a slightly smaller 13" Macbook Pro. Both come with Retina displays with extremely high resolution that makes text reproduction smoother and perfectly sharp.

The new 13" Macbook Pro uses a LCD panel based on the IPS panel technology – the same as in the larger Macbook Pro. The resolution is 2560x1600 pixels (four times more pixels than the previous Macbook Pro). For comparison, our large-size 40, 50 & 60 inch TVs in our living rooms have only 1920x1080 pixel resolutions.
Apple says that the IPS panel in the 13” Macbook Pro has 29% higher contrast ratio compared to previous Macbooks. The rate of reflections has been lowered by 75 %, making the laptop useable even in very bright daylight. The panel has a brightness of 300 cd/m2.
We hope that Apple's two new Macbook Pro with Retina displays can help to push the PC monitor market forward. The new 13” Macbook Pro will be available very soon.
