Hon Hai (Foxconn) intends to build a LCD-TV plant in Chongqing, China. The so-called “Smart TV” plant will have an annual output of 3 million TVs and will be ready in 2013.
Foxconn to build LCD-TV plant
Foxconn recently invested in Sharp’s 10G LCD plant that is also the most advanced LCD plant in the world and the one used to produce Sharp’s 80 and 90 inch TVs. Foxconn reports that they also intend to build a new LCD-TV factory in Chongqing, China.

Not many details are shared at this point but the LCD-TV plant is said to be ready for mass production in late 2013. It will be able to produce 3 million TV sets annually, which is quite low for a modern TV factory. Foxconn will invest approximately 1 billion USD.
We should underline that Foxconn intends to produce final TV sets at the new plant and not actual LCD-TV panels that will have to be sourced elsewhere. The plant is said to involve touch-screen LCD-TVs for Smart TVs. Half of the production is locked for these touch-screen LCD-TVs that will ship to European markets.
Foxconn already produces laptops in Chongqing.
