Ultra HD – or 4K – TVs are still extremely pricey and Sharp underlines that point with their new 60-inch Ultra HD TV. The TV is wildly impressive and the first THX-certified Ultra HD TV but makes Sony and LG’s Ultra HD TVs look cheap.
Sharp’s 60-inch Ultra HD TV
Sharp is one of the proponents of an early shift to Ultra HD and they have exhibited 4K and 8K TVs for years. Here is a real product. It is Sharp’s 60-inch TV with 3840x2160 pixels. It is dubbed ICC Purios due to the so-called ICC picture processor inside.

The TV will be available in Japan from February and is the first Ultra HD TV with a “THX Certification” which basically means that color reproduction and other picture elements are in line with the THX / picture standards, for the best possible picture quality.
The TV is not cheap at over $30,000 USD, and considering that Sony and LG offer 84-inch Ultra HD TVs for a lot less, Sharp could have a hard time selling a much smaller 60-inch Ultra HD; THX certification or not.
