Monoprice started out as a cable company, selling HDMI cables much cheaper than everyone else. The quality was the same. They hope to do the same with high-end monitors challenging the likes of Dell with IPS monitors that carry a 50-70 % lower price tag.
Monoprice to start selling monitors
If you know a thing or two about the digital world you probably also know of the greatest scam of them all; extremely expensive digital cables such as HDMI cables. Companies such as Monster continue to scam buyers; some unknowing; some stuck in the analog time where cable quality mattered. A digital cable is digital, which means that you either get a correct or wrong signal. No in-between.
Monoprice will start selling this 27-inch IPS monitor in March for under $400
Monoprice has been selling dirt-cheap digital cables for some years now and the HDMI cable business has been thriving, to say at least. The cables are just as good as any other – but much cheaper.
After some Korean companies started selling extremely cheap IPS based monitors that could compare with for example Dell’s Ultrasharp monitors, Monoprice saw an opportunity to move into actual consumer electronics, too. And at CES 2013 they exhibited their first 27-inch “high-end” IPS monitor that is priced at under $400 but specced to compete with $1000 monitors.
