Calibrate Panasonic's TVs from an iPad

Panasonic has integrated a unique calibration system in its high-end TVs. From an iPad app you can control not only the basic settings but also quite advanced calibration settings with interactive tools.

Calibration will get easier and more convenient with Panasonic’s latest app. It sounds a bit fancy but it is quite effective in use. We saw it in action at the Panasonic Convention in Nice last week.

Instead of fiddling around with the TV remote, Panasonic has moved the user interface onto the iPad. From here you can control for example color settings but you can access even more advanced settings that are seldom found even in high-end TVs, including color gamut settings and 0-100 IRE settings. The best part is that you can see the effect of your calibration immediately, with no overlapping menus or other annoying distractions. Watch the video below for a quick look at the different calibration options (we apologize for the bad video format).

The interactive calibration feature can be found in Panasonic’s Viera Remote app for iOS and automatically pops up if you buy one of the ZT60 & VT60 plasma TVs or the WT60 & DT60 LED models. It requires all devices to be connected to the same home network. It also works on the iPhone.

Panasonic offers pre-calibrated THX modes in the high-end plasma TVs but the freedom to fine tune via an interactive interface will surely appeal to many discerning users. You can see our complete overview of Panasonic's 2013 TVs here.
