According to market research firm DisplaySearch, Ultra HD TVs will start to take off in 2013. They expect 2.6 million Ultra HD TVs to be sold in 2013. Five display manufacturers have started production.
2.6 million Ultra HD TVs in 2013
In 2012, only 63,000 Ultra HD TVs were sold to both consumers and professionals. In 2013, that number is expected to grow 40-fold to 2.6 million.

Five display manufacturers have started mass production of 4K panels in 2013. These include LG.Display, Samsung, Sharp, AUO, and Innolux. The screen sizes will vary from 39" to 85". Most TV brands also plan to launch Ultra HD TVs in 2013, including Sony, LG, Samsung, Philips, Sharp, Toshiba and Chinese.

It is expected that most Ultra HD TVs will be bought for commercial or professional purposes in 2013 but it will help drive down production costs so consumers can to enjoy cheaper Ultra HD TVs in the coming years. DisplaySearch also says that development of Ultra HD panels will boost developments of other display components that could help reduce costs on existing TVs.
