Sharp launches 70" 4K TV for 8000 USD

Sharp teased Ultra HD (4K) TVs at CES but the first Ultra TV from the Japanese TV maker is a different one. It will launch in USA in August for 8,000 USD. The 70” TV has been THX certified for 4K.

4K TVs are soon available from every major TV maker and Sharp is joining the race in August with its first consumer 4K TV that is slightly bigger and more expensive than Sony’s 65” 4K TV.


Sharp’s first 4K TV is 70 inches large

The 70” TV not only has 4K / Ultra HD resolution but has also been put through 400 picture quality tests to obtain the first 4K THX certification. Additionally, Sharp has implemented a powerful 4K upscaler for SD and Full HD content. The TV also implements active 3D technology.

The TV offers Sharp’s internet platform with access to TV apps and a selection of internet services such as Netflix, Hulu Plus, Vudu, and YouTube. Users can control the TV with an iPhone/Pad or an Android device by installing the AQUOS Remote Lite app. WiFi is built in.

Sharp recommends a real sound system – preferably one of its own – for the optimal sound experience but for casual viewing Sharp has implemented a capable 35 W 6-speaker system.

Sharp’s 70” LC-70UD1U will be available in the US in mid-August for 8,000 USD.
