Samsung has acquired Boxee for $30 million US dollars. Boxee created the Boxee Box that lets users connect to the Internet and internet services on the TV screen.
Update: Samsung has confirmed the deal to Engadget: "Samsung has acquired key talent and assets from Boxee. This will help us continue to improve the overall user experience across our connected devices"

The Israeli company Boxee started out as a media center software company. Later, they created the Boxee Box with the quirky design, together with D-Link. The Boxee Box was recently discontinued and replaced with the Boxee TV product that is available only in USA.

Samsung takes over from here. They have acquired Boxee, according to Israeli media. The deal is said to have been closed at $30 million USD, and Samsung intends to retain the 40 employees – at least for now.
Neither Samsung nor Boxee has confirmed the deal and no details have been shared regarding Samsung’s intentions. Samsung already has a Smart TV platform integrated in its Smart TVs, Blu-ray players and home cinema systems.
