Netflix introduced the Super HD level in January. Since the introduction it has required that your ISP has collaborated with Netflix, but Netflix has announced that Super HD is now available to all users in all countries.
Netflix’s Super HD is now available to everyone
Netflix calls it Super HD to indicate that it is their best picture quality level (with lowest compression). It is a Full HD (1920x1080) feed with mpeg4 compression (eyeIQ technology). There are two Super HD levels; one with a bit rate of 6 Mb/s and one with 4,3 Mb/s.
Netflix’s Super HD is now
Super HD was launched during CES in January 2013 as part of the Open Connect initiative. Through Open Connect Netflix offered ISPs to install a local server to reduce the load on the internet. Only those ISPs who participated in the Open Connect initiative could offer Netflix’s Super HD level to customers. But no more. Everyone can now enjoy Netflix’s Super HD, regardless of ISP.
The change has been confirmed for all of Netflix’s regions.
To take advantage of Super HD you also need a media box or Smart TV that supports it. You can see a list here. In addition, you also need at least a 7 Mb/s internet connection.
