AU Optronics has started mass production at their 4.5G plant in Singapore, according to OLED-Info.com. AUO has been previously been involved in Sony and Panasonic’s 4K OLED TV prototypes.
AUO starts OLED production
AU Optronics is one of the largest LCD panel manufacturers today, and they are also looking to compete in the OLED space. AUO’s 4.5 generation plant in Singapore has finally started OLED production, it is reported.

The monthly capacity is 45,000 substrates that can be cut into smaller OLED panels, but it is not clear if all production lines are dedicated to OLED panels. A 4.5G plant is typically dedicated to small to medium-sized panels for smartphones and tablets, but larger panels for monitors, laptops or even TVs can also be produced. AUO has exhibited several 4-5” OLED prototypes in recent years, and has announced a 65-inch OLED panel.
AUO has also been involved in Sony and Panasonic’s 4K OLED TV prototypes and seems to have collaborated with the Japanese TV makers that are trying to catch up with the South Korean players, Samsung and LG. However, AUO's 4.5G plant does not appear to have ties to Panasonic & Sony's OLED TVs.
The first OLED panels produced at AUO’s Singapore factory are expected to debut in Sony and HTC’s flagship smartphones.
