Sony releases "Ultimate FAQ" about PlayStation 4

Sony has published a mile-long FAQ about the PlayStation 4. Every detail seems to be covered and the some pressing questions have been answered – but you will not like all of them. Sony says that the PS4 will not support mp3 and DLNA streaming at launch, and two big game titles have been delayed.

Sony calls it "PS4: The Ultimate FAQ" and it contains every little detail about the PlayStation 4. We already knew most of it, but Sony has also shared some new details; some negative, some positive.

First of all, you’ll need to prepare yourself for a major launch-day software update. The 1.50 update will add DVD and Blu-ray support, but it can download in the background while you’re playing a game, so it shouldn’t be too much trouble. Updates are generally downloaded overnight automatically.

A more depressing revelation of the FAQ is that PS4 will not support mp3 and DLNA from the beginning, which means that you cannot stream movies, music, and photos from your PC or NAS drives in your home. And if you still enjoy your music CD collection you’ll probably be disappointed to learn that the PS4 will not play CDs - and that’s final.

The PS4 will ship with a 500GB HDD built-in, but you can replace it with a larger one if you like. Sony is also clarifying the cross-play capabilities between the PS4 and PS Vita, and even mentions that it is "technically possible" to play multi-player games between a PS3 and a PS4. But is it also “practically possible”?

It was also recently announced that one of the most significant next-gen launch titles, Watch Dogs, has been delayed to “spring 2014”. The racing game Drive Club, which we got some hands-on time with at IFA 2013, has also been delayed into 2014. 22 game titles will be available for the PS4 at launch. Sony’s PlayStation 4 will launch on November 15th in USA and November 29th in Europe. It can be pre-ordered in USA and Europe, but launch-day availability is not guaranteed.
