Netflix launches the TV platform of the future

Netflix is launching its new user interface for the TV screen. It has a new, more visual design, new features, and is consistent across Smart TVs, game consoles, set-top boxes, and Blu-ray-players. It is built on an entirely new software platform.

The new interface and software platform will make the Netflix experience consistent across most of the main devices connected to the TV. More than a year and a half in the making, this new platform is a major makeover that will serve as the future TV platform for Netflix, and also allow the company to roll out new features faster.

Netflix has focused on making the TV interface simpler with more visual elements, such as large images. It is easier and faster to navigate, and easier to discover new content. The new interface also explains why it is recommending the movies and shows to you. When you press play you now jump directly to the movie or TV show instead of seeing the red loading logo. - "Our members collectively watch more than a billion hours of Netflix a month, most of that is on a TV. This is the biggest change to the Netflix experience on televisions in our history, making it even easier to find something great to watch on Netflix, bringing our members many more hours of Netflix enjoyment on their TVs. This new software platform will allow us to innovate even faster and continuously improve the Internet television experience for our members across multiple devices" said Netflix 's Chief Product Officer Neil Hunt.

The new interface rolls out globally today and will reach all devices within two weeks. It will be available on PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360 (+voice control), as well new and future Smart TVs and Blu-ray players. More devices, including Roku 2, will receive the update later.
