The two South Korean companies, Samsung and LG, plan to unveil flexible OLED TVs at the CES 2014 show in Las Vegas this January, according to Korea Times. The curvature angle can be controlled with a remote.
Flexible OLED TVs at CES 2014?
Samsung and LG revealed curved OLED TVs at this year’s CES 2013 show, and at CES 2014 in January the two giants will reveal flexible OLED TVs, according to sources in Korea.
The source offers some details saying that the curvature angle of Samsung’s flexible OLED TV can be controlled with the remote. The user can decide to have the flexible OLED TV completely flat during normal use, but make it curve when, for example, playing video games alone. The source also says that Samsung’s display will be “huge” and that it will be based on a plastic substrate.

However, the source adds.
- “Samsung’s key local component partners obviously including Samsung Display, have already been in the process of supplying the needed parts. I don’t know yet whether the prototype will be displayed in a Samsung booth or only to major clients in closed meetings,”
It is not uncommon for electronics manufacturers to have some products hidden in a room during big trade shows. If competitors decide to unveil new technology, plans are sometimes changed and products are instead exhibited at the official show floors.
LG is said to reveal something similar, with an unnamed LG official saying:
- “LG’s new TV chief will meet clients and reporters for the first time as president and will promote something new. We will also unveil a remote bendable OLED TV that hasn’t been seen before,”
The report concludes by saying that the technology is “nowhere near mass production” and that it is “currently two steps farther than mainstream TV technology”. Samsung and LG are already selling smartphones with flexible OLED displays.
