TV maker Skyworth has announced that they are rolling out the first OLED TV made by a Chinese manufacturer. The OLED panel is supplied by LG, but incorporates Skyworth’s own TV processing systems.
Chinese Skyworth launches OLED TV
Skyworth will release the first OLED TV from a Chinese manufacturer. They have planned two versions of the OLED TV that was announced at a local press event in front of reporters last week.
Skyworth’s OLED TV
The OLED panel inside is made by LG.Display and uses the WRGB pixel structure. Skyworth says that the TV is capable of reproducing images with a response time of 0.001 ms, 10,000,000:1 contrast ratio, and stunning colors. Skyworth says that the TV is “as thin as a cicada’s wing”. The TV panel is 5 mm thin, but the frame adds some millimeters. Skyworth has compared it to an iPhone below.
Skyworth’s OLED TV
The news is interesting, as it means LG.Display has started selling their OLED panels to other TV makers, possibly indicating that production is under control and increasing. The Chinese TV market is booming and with a Chinese TV maker on board it could help LG.Display ramp up production and drive down production costs.
Skyworth’s two OLED TVs will not go on sale until the end of Q2 2014, and there is no word on availability outside of China.
