We already knew that Panasonic will exit the plasma business, but it was still strange to see plasma TVs absent from Panasonic’s CES 2014 unveiling. Instead, Panasonic promises plasma-like picture quality from LCD models. New AX800 4K TVs has been unveiled.

Panasonic has announced the new AX800 4K TVs in 65 (TC-65AX800U) and 58 inch sizes (TC-58AX800U). Both of the TVs come with HDMI 2.0, and Displayport 1.2a inputs, enabling them to receive 4K signals in up to 60 frames per second, unlike many 4K TVs today. Both TVs also support HEVC decoding.

Panasonic touts new features such as support for an extended color gamut, as well as local dimming Pro. However, Panasonic did not make clear if this is a real full-array local dimming system or just the usual “edge-lit local dimming” marketing. The new TVs are also THX certified.
Panasonic also has a range of Full HD models prepared for their 2014 TV line-up, ranging from 32 to 60 inch sizes. One of them is the AS680 range with 240 Hz panels. Panasonic will also release AS650 range TVs with 1500 Backlight scanning, and cheaper AS640, AS530 and A400 ranges. We are chasing more information.
