Panasonic is out, but Samsung and LG will keep plasma TVs alive - at least for 2014. LG is exhibiting new plasma TVs at CES, but Samsung has nothing to show. However, they expect to release new models later in 2014.
Plasma is almost a closed chapter
Panasonic was the driving force for plasma technology, but they have decided to pull the plug, which left a void at Panasonic's CES booth. Panasonic has new TVs to show at CES, but it us clear that they has toned down the focus - at least for 2014.
Samsung and LG will remain in the game a little longer. LG is exhibiting new plasma TVs here at CES in Las Vegas, but just like last year, the new models are generally mid-range and low-end TVs. They will be available in 42, 50, and 60 inch sizes, but have none of the advanced Smart TV features of LG's top-of-the-line LCD and OLED TVs.

Samsung has nothing new to show on the plasma front at CES 2014, but Samsung Nordic tells us that they are planning to release new plasma TVs later in 2014. They are planning to release a new high-end 8 series plasma TVs, but will also sell cheaper models. However, it is clear that Samsung has no big plans for plasma TVs.
Plasma is as good as dead as a display technology.
