At CES, Roku has announced that real TVs with the Roku smart TV platform built-in are coming. Roku has partnered with China-based Hisense and TCL.
Roku TVs are coming
You have probably already tried a Roku streaming box, you might even own one. Now imagine that having a TV with Roku’s smart TV platform built-in. That is exacted what is happening here.
Hisense's Roku TV
Roku wants to create a TV platform and they have partnered with two Chinese TV makers, TCL and Hisense, to create Roku TVs. The Roku TVs offer access to a range of streaming services, games and more via more than 1200 TV apps. Roku will license out the platform, so more partners could join down the road.
The Roku TVs can be controlled by either the TV remote or mobile devices using the Roku app for Apple iOS or Android. The Roku TVs also support DUAL, which is the system Chromecast has been built on. It lets you stream content from your smartphones or tablet onto the TV screen.
The Roku TVs will be available this fall in the U.S. and Canada in 32 to 55 inch sizes. Prices have not been announced.
