Many got excited when Dell promised to bring a 28-inch 4K monitor to market for less than $1000. Dell has now unveiled all details, and there is a catch, actually two. It is based on an inferior TN panel and only supports 30 Hz 4K.
Dell’s P2815Q is a dud
Dell’s first 4K monitors are IPS-based and look very appealing, but the 28-inch P2815Q is surely a let-down. The price taken into account we should probably have expected some limitations, but it is still disappointing to see a TN panel inside.
The P2815Q will have 3840x2160 pixels - also known as 4K in the industry - but it will only accept signals at up to 30 Hz in 4K resolution. You need to switch to 1920x1080 pixel resolution to run at 60 Hz. The montior can be connected through DisplayPort 1.2 or HDMI 1.4. It also has a USB hub and ergonomic adjustability features, including pivot.
Other specs include 5 ms response time, 170/170 viewing angles, and 300 cd/m2 brightness.
The Dell P2815Q will launch on January 23 for $699. But yeah, TN panel.
