During CES, BenQ announced new additions to their line-up of gaming monitors with the two 24-inch XL2420G and 27-inch XL2720G monitors. Both support G-sync as well as BenQ’s new strobe lighting mode. However, not at the same time.
BenQ’s first monitors with G-sync
BenQ is trying to push game performance of its monitors with various new technologies. We recently heard about BenQ’s new “Z” models that use strobe backlighting to reduce motion blur.
The two new 24-inch XL2420G and 27-inch XL2720G monitors also support this mode, and adds another choice into the mix. You can choose to use either the strobe backlighting or you can choose to use the new G-sync mode.

G-sync has been developed by Nvidia in an attempt to synchronize the frame rate of the monitor perfectly to the frame rate of the PC graphics card. So, if the game runs at 40 Hz, the monitor will too - and ditto for 100 Hz. This can reduce latency and eliminate tearing. To use G-sync you also need one of the latest Nvidia graphics cards with DisplayPort. HDMI and DVI ports are not supported.
Both of the new monitors use a TN panels with 1920x1080 pixel resolution, 1 ms (g2g) response time and 144 Hz refresh. The monitors also support 3D Vision.
The two new models are flicker-free and should be available before the end of Q1 2014, says BenQ.
