Two separate reports claim to know that new Apple TV hardware and software is imminent. The new Apple TV box is expected to launch in the first half of 2014 with a new operating system and possibly an App Store and Game Store.
New Apple TV coming in first half of 2014
Almost two years have passed since Apple updated the Apple TV box. Several people have chimed in with hearsay, but so far nothing has materialized. Two reports now suggest that something will happen in the first half of 2014. One source even expects new software before March.
The new Apple TV will reportedly use a new operating system, again based on iOS, and the source also says that it will support a new type of content, leasing 9to5mac.com to believe that Apple will introduce an App Store and Game Store. It is still unclear if these new features will make it to the ATV2 and ATV3 boxes, but it is unlikely based on the limited 8GB memory inside.

It is also reported that the current Apple TV will receive support for game controllers before March. Apple recently added support for game controllers in iOS7.
Once again, Apple is said to be working on a new input mode for the Apple TV user interface, possibly gesture or voice controls. We heard the same thing in the fall of 2013, but this is obviously no guarantee that it will make it to the final product.
