Where there is smoke, there is often fire, they say. We continue to hear about Amazon’s plans to enter the TV arena with a TV media box similar to the Roku and Apple TV. Sources tell Recode that the TV box will launch this March.
Rumors about Amazon’s TV box persist
The first rumors of a December 2013 launch turned out to be untrue, but sources continue to leak information, which suggests that Amazon is indeed planning to release a TV media box.
The “Kindle TV” is said to be based on Android, just like Amazon’s forked Kindle tablets. It will allow consumers to watch the Amazon Instant
streaming service on their living room TV, but will also allow other content providers in through TV apps, according to Recode. The box would compete with Apple TV and the Roku boxes.
Amazon is also believed to be working on a gaming hub, having hired several game developers. Rumors say that Amazon is working on an Android-based game console, which could very well turn out to be one and the same device.
Recode’s sources believe that Amazon is aiming for a March rollout of the TV box.
