Toshiba has unveiled its new 2014 line-up of full HD TVs. The top-of-the-line L7 series is a Full HD TV with direct LED backlighting and full local dimming for improved contrast.

Toshiba’s 7, 6, 4, and 3 series have been announced. The most expensive is the L7 range has true local dimming that improves contrast drastically, says Toshiba. It also features passive 3D and a CEVO picture engine, as well as Toshiba’s Cloud Smart TV platform with TV apps such as Netflix. The 7 series will be available in 42, 47, and 55 inch sizes.

The slightly cheaper L6 series has no 3D and no CEVO picture engine, but otherwise resembles the L7 series with full local dimming. L6 will be available in 42 and 37 inch sizes. The L5 series reintroduces 3D – the active kind – and will be available in 40 and 48 inch sizes. This model utilizes edge LED and a less feature-rich Smart TV platform.
The cheapest L3 series is an entry-level range in 24 to 48 inch sizes. It still includes Smart TV features, but little else. Toshiba will launch new 4K TVs in the 9 series this summer, but has yet to announce details.
Toshiba’s new 2014 Full HD TVs will be available starting from May 2014. Prices have not been announced.
