LG unveils 2014 Blu-rays with private sound mode

A modern Blu-ray player can do more than just play optical discs. It can also stream TV from Netflix, YouTube and more. LG has unveiled its 2014 Blu-ray players with a new Private Sound mode that lets you beam sound to your smartphone. For optical discs and streaming
LG’s 2014 flagship is an ice cream sandwich designed box with Blu-ray as well as streaming apps such as Netflix and YouTube through LG’s old Smart TV platform – not the new webOS platform. It can upscale to 4K resolution and supports 3D Blu-ray, obviously.
One new common feature for all of LG’s 2014 players is a “Private Sound Mode”. This allows you to stream audio from a Blu-ray or TV apps directly to Bluetooth-enabled headphones or even your smartphone/tablet via LG’s app. You can then connect wired headphones. The BD players support Miracast screen mirroring.
LG will also release cheaper BP640, BP540 (US only) and BP440 (Europe only). Specifications below.
All three Blu-ray players will be available in April/May.
