At Netflix’s quarterly earnings call, CEO Reed Hastings said that Netflix will raise prices for new members in the coming quarter. Netflix might also experiments with new, more expensive tiers.
But only by a few dollars
Netflix has been priced at $8 for a long time, but new members can expect to pay either $9 og $10 dollars very soon.
- ”Our current view is to do a one or two dollar increase, depending on the country, later this quarter for new members only,” said CEO Reed Hastings.
The price increase will apply to the US, but Netflix has not yet commented specifically on other regions. Netflix is also considering new tiers. Netflix has already introduced a tier with 4 simultaneous streams on the same account, but they could go even farther it seems.
The price increase will let Netflix "acquire more content and deliver an even better streaming experience”, according to Hastings. Current members will not see any price bumps for a “generous” period of time. Netflix added 4 million new members in the last quarter.
