Sony to launch 4K player with 4K Netflix in Europe

Sony recently unveiled their second generation 4K player for the US market. Sony now confirms that a modified version, FMP-X5, will launch in Europe. It has no hard drive, but supports HEVC and 4K streaming from Netflix.

The 4K player will let owners of last year’s Sony 4K TVs enjoy 4K content, including 4K streaming from Netflix. Unlike 2013 the X9 and X8 4K TVs, the new FMP-X5 supports HEVC decoding, which is essential for streaming in 4K. Sony’s 4K players are also the first media boxes to support 4K Netflix (read our hands-on with Netflix 4K here).

If you own one of Sony’s 2013 4K TVs this one is for you. If you are planning on buying one of the coming 2014 Sony 4K TVs you have everything you need built right into the TV.

- Source: Sony via HDTVTest.co.uk
