It is official. Netflix is aggressively expanding in Europe and will launch in Germany, France, Austria, Switzerland, Belgium and Luxembourg later this year. It is a major push for the TV streaming service.
Huge expansion in Europe
Netflix already has over 48 million subscribers to its streaming service. Expect a lot more to join the party later this year when Netflix expands to six new European countries.
Germany and France are the two biggest additions with around 29.1 million and 24.7 million broadband subscribers, respectively. Netflix has already launched in the UK, the Nordic countries, and The Netherlands. Later this year they will also add Austria, Switzerland, Belgium, and Luxembourg.

Netflix recently raised prices for new members and has aggressively increased investments in original content, following successes such as House of Cards and Orange is the New Black. Netflix has also started streaming in 4K recently.
Netflix has not announced a launch date yet, but September has been mentioned as a possible target in previous reports.
But expect more from the TV streaming giant that could be the first global TV provider.
- "We intend to continue our international expansion over the coming years, so our near-term profits will be quite modest as we invest in this large global opportunity," Netflix said in its latest earnings report.
