Xbox One is a game console, but TV was also a big part of Microsoft’s plans for the black box. All the TV features, including the OneGuide (TV guide) and Kinect voice control of connected set-top boxes will be enabled for Canadians and Europeans in the coming June update.
OneGuide, Kinect and more
Xbox One owners in the US can already enjoy the Xbox One’s TV integration that lets you connect an external set-top box with TV channels and control it via the Xbox One. In the coming June update, these features will expand to Canada, the UK, Germany, France, Spain, and Italy.
One of the new features is Microsoft’s OneGuide, which is a TV guide. The update will also let you control a connected TV set-top box via Kinect voice commands. Another new feature is the SmartGlass app for smartphones and tablets that let you pull up the OneGuide directly on your touch devices.
Additionally, the June update will add support for external 3.0 USB hard drives and the ability to bring that hard drive to friends’ houses and start playing your games at his console, after you have logged into your account.
Starting in June, Microsoft will start selling the Xbox One without Kinect for $399. They will also let you stream from Netflix and other services without Xbox Live Gold.
