Valve wants to “make the controller a lot better” so they are delaying the range of game consoles until 2015. It was supposed to launch later this year as a competitor to the PlayStation and Xbox in the living room.
Valve delays Steam Machines to 2015
Valve promised to launch the so-called Steam Machines this fall, but plans have changed. Valve wants to use all the feedback to make the Steam controller a lot better.
Valve’s Steam Machine is a game console for the living room, designed to work with a controller instead of a mouse and keyboard. Game developers are in the process of changing their game to fit the controller and Valve hopes that you will use their game console platform in your living room instead of a PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
Valve did not specify how partners will be impacted. The idea behind the Steam Machine is to let other hardware partners build a game console based on specs. They might decide to go ahead with their plans to launch this fall, but it will be without the real Steam controller.
We are still excited about Valve’s plans to enter the living room, but it appears that we will have to be patient.
