Panasonic has launched two Ultra HD TVs so far; the new AX800 and last year’s WT600. None of the TVs will support 4K streaming from Netflix, Panasonic has confirmed to FlatpanelsHD. A new AX900 will launch later this year with full 4K Netflix support.

No 4K Netflix in Panasonic’s 4K TVs

There is a scarcity of 4K content at the moment, so many TV makers have pinned their hope on Netflix’s 4K streaming plans. Unfortunately, buyers of Panasonic’s two first Ultra HD TVs will not be able to enjoy that.

No 4K Netflix

Panasonic confirms to FlatpanelsHD that despite supporting HEVC – which is used for Netflix’s 4K streaming - on both AX800 and WT600, the TVs are incapable of streaming in 4K from Netflix. And it cannot be added through later updates either, as “the hardware does not meet the requirements from Netflix”, Panasonic said in a written statement to FlatpanelsHD.

If other streaming services plan to offer 4K HEVC streaming in the future, support will be decided on a case by case basis.

Panasonic will launch a new AX900 Ultra HD TV later this year with full support for 4K Netflix.
