Sony reveals details about PS Now game streaming

12 Jun 2014 | Rasmus Larsen |

In the future you will stream your games like you stream movies from Netflix - at least if Sony gets its way. With PlayStation Now (PS Now), Sony is making this vision reality. Games can be rented started from $3 and Sony will introduce a subscription service later.

PS Now prices start at $3

PlayStation Now can revolutionize the gaming industry. You no longer have to buy the discs or download games. Once a game is released you press “play” and you are thrown into action. The game is streamed directly from Sony’s server centers around the world.

At E3, Sony told attendees that PlayStation Now will open as a public beta for all Americans and Canadians on July 31. Games can be rented for $3 to $20 dollars, depending on the title. Sony did not say how long the renting period spans, but did say that a PS Now subscription service will be introduced at a later stage that lets you pay monthly to get access to a large catalogue of games.

100 titles – more coming

The picture below was recently leaked and could indicate that the subscription service will cost $50, but this is still unconfirmed.

At the moment around 100 titles are available, including Last of Us, God of War: Ascension, Dead Space 3, Ratchet and Clank: Into the Nexus, Little Big Planet 2 and Beyond: Two Souls. More will be released soon.

PS Now will roll out on the PlayStation 4 on July 31, 2014. It will later be available on PlayStation 3, PS Vita and the new PlayStation TV box as well as Sony's 4K TVs that will have access through an app.

No date for the official launch of PS Now has been announced, but Sony confirms that the game streaming service is also coming to Europe and Japan.
