Sharp’s second-generation Ultra HD TVs will be bigger, better, and cheaper. The new UD27 range includes a 60” model for $2999 and a 70” model for $4499.

Sharp has announced new Ultra HD models that will be considerably cheaper than last year’s offerings. The new UD27 range will support HDMI 2.0 and HEVC, which allows you to stream 4K from Netflix and other streaming services in the future.
UD27 has a new design with thin bezels in brushed aluminum and a funky stand.
Sharp also highlights a new Spectros technology that expands the color gamut by 21 percent compared to last year’s TVs. However, very little TV content is available in a wider gamut than the standard Rec.709, but that could obviously change in the future.
Sharp is promising improved black levels and is expecting to receive THX certification for its picture quality, but the request is still pending. The TVs are based on LCD panels with LED backlighting, but no advanced local dimming system has been implemented.
Sharp says that the UD27 will offers TV apps through the SmartCentral platform, even though Sharp was confirmed as a launch partner for Google’s new Android TV platform. The new Android-based platform will be integrated in 2015 TVs.
