Netflix is expanding to several new European countries later this year, and Australia appears to be the next major market for Netflix after the European expansion. Netflix is currently negotiating content deals.
Netflix coming to Australia
Aussies will be pleased to know that Netflix has found them on the world map. According to the co-CEO of Village Roadshow, Netflix will launch in Australia at some point in the near future.
- ” Netflix, they're talking to our people about supply of products, so they are opening and coming to Australia,” said Graham Burke, the co-CEO of Village Roadshow to ZDNet.

No time frame was given, but Netflix will expand to six new European countries later this year, possibly September, which probably means that Australia is part of the next launch wave. A separate report from AFR points to 2015 as the most likely launch window.
One important parameter that Netflix evaluates a market on is internet penetration & speed. HD streaming from Netflix requires around 6-8 Mb/s, whereas 4K streaming requires at least 16 Mb/s.
