New Slingbox M1 announced

17 Jul 2014 | Rasmus Larsen |

The Slingboxes let you watch your TV channels everywhere, on your mobile, PC, media streamer or another TV. The latest addition to the line-up is Slingbox M1, which offers WiFi.

The slingboxes connect to your TV set-top box via one of the analog inputs (not HDMI because of copy protection) and will broadcast all your TV channels over the internet to any device, including iOS, Android and Roku.

The new Slingbox M1 will replace the current Slingbox 350 and is $30 cheaper with its $150 price tag. One of the new additions is WiFi (2.4 & 5 Ghz), which means that you can set it up wirelessly behind your TV.

Sling is also rebranding the current Slingbox 500 to SlingTV. It is the same hardware, but few new software updates will roll out in late August. The SlingTV has a user interface on the TV, which lets you access services such as Blockbuster Video and Dish TV, but none from Netflix, Hulu og Amazon Instant. Sling says that they are working on bringing more apps to the platform.

The Slingbox M1 will be available next week for $150 and the SlingTV is available for $300.
