The most popular media player out there, XBMC, is changing its name to Kodi. XBMC was short for “Xbox Media Center”, but with a name change team could very well be targeting more mainstream users.
XBMC is now Kodi
Every Smart TV and many movie players offer DLNA streaming, enabling you to watch your movies and music on your network, but over the years none of them have come close to the XBMC software.

Originally “Xbox Media Player” and later just XBMC, the streaming software started on the original Xbox, and later expanding to other devices such as media boxes, select Smart TV, Android and iOS. The software no longer runs on the Xbox so the name change to Kodi is only natural.
The developers have been looking for a more mainstream profile for some time, and Kodi certainly rolls off the tongue more easily. No future plans have been announced, but as more and more Smart TVs and media players offers apps, the route into the living room appears straightforward for Kodi. We expect to hear more from them once all the practicalities have been taken care off.
