Google is rolling out a refreshed YouTube app for Smart TVs, game consoles and other streamer boxes. It has a refreshed look and better channel and playlist support. Google is also highlighting “Chromecast” integration.
A new design language
Many people have not noticed yet, but most new Smart TVs actually have integrated “Chromecast” - or to be more accurate DIAL, which is the protocol that Chromecast it based on. Just open your YouTube app on Android or iOS and push the video to your Smart TV.
The new YouTube app also has a refreshed look in line with Google’s “Material Design” philosophy for Android. A new sidebar gives you access to the channels you have subscribed to, curated channels, and your playlists. The app is also faster.
The app is already available on Xbox One and will be rolling out to other streamer boxes and Smart TV in the following weeks.
