At IFA 2014, Samsung has announced a partnership with Oculus. Samsung has created the Gear VR headset with Oculus software inside. Gear VR is an accessory for the Galaxy Note 4.

Gear VR announced

The rumors were true. Samsung and Oculus has teamed up on Samsung’s latest VR headset. You need to plug in the just announced Galaxy Note 4 (no other devices supported) to use the headset, but it runs on Oculus software just like the Oculus Rift.

When a Note 4 is plugged in the Gear VR functions like the Oculus Rift where you enter a virtual world inside the headset. However, as Note 4 also acts as the processor there are no wires out of the headset.

Samsung and Oculus have also created four new experiences for the Gear VR called Oculus Home, Oculus Cinema, Oculus 360 Videos and Oculus 360 Photos.

Samsung Gear VR will be available later this fall. Samsung is exhibiting it at IFA in Berlin so we will try to give you some hands-on impressions.
