If you search long and hard, you might find the three OLED TVs at Samsung’s IFA booth that are tucked away in one of the corners. Two of them are 4K OLED TV and even though the TVs look amazing, Samsung has no plans to launch them right now.
Samsung has other plans
At previous IFA and CES shows, Samsung’s OLED TVs were the highlights of the show - at the entrance and at the exit. At this year’s IFA show, the OLED TVs are hidden in an inconspicuous corner at Samsung’s booth.
Samsung’s OLED TV never made it to most of the world, not even some of the markets that it was announced for. Many in the industry believe that Samsung has deep production issues, but Samsung says that they have simply chosen to focus on other things; curved TVs and Ultra HD for example.
And even though Samsung is exhibiting two 4K OLED TVs at IFA 2014, they have no plans to launch OLED TVs in any form in the near future, they tell us. And no time frame is set, at least not one Samsung is willing to talk about.
Its neighbor LG, on the other hand, is accelerating its OLED rollout, seeing it as an opportunity to get ahead of its lifelong “big brother”. One is tempted to think that Samsung’s curved TVs are merely a temporary smokescreen to buy more time. Because despite the fuzzy launch plans, Samsung has certainly not abandoned the OLED TV, they assure us.
