The UltraFlix 4K service will soon be available for owners of Sony’s 2014 4K TVs. UltraFlix currently boasts of the largest library of 4K content, including 40 IMAX theatrical titles.
More 4K for Sony’s 4K TVs
UltraFlix is created by NanoTech, which is also selling Android-based 4K players. An UltraFlix app will arrive on Sony’s 4K TVs soon, and will be pre-installed on new TVs sold in stores.
UltraFlix has a range of movies and TV shows in 4K as well as “more than 300 hours of stunning 4K travel and nature documentaries, including 40 made for IMAX theatrical titles”. There is also over 100 hours of free content in 4K. UltraFlix says that they currently have the “world’s largest library of 4K VOD content”.
- “Our decision to bundle UltraFlix with our next-generation 4K Ultra HD TVs was based on our continual quest to deliver the most immersive viewing experience that consumers are seeking,” said Nick Colsey, Vice President of Sony Electronics.
UltraFlix is using HEVC compression and adaptive streaming to automatically adjust picture quality. UltraFlix says that they can stream 4K video “at under 8 Mbps”. Netflix is currently streaming 4K with 15.6 Mbps and HEVC.
The new app will be available on a total of nine Sony 4K TVs soon.
